Clay/Ceramic weight for 2L or 3L Fido jar or small crock

This classic two-piece clay weight (round with a hole) weighs approximately 200g and measures 12 cms in diameter and approx 13mms thick.  It will fit into most smaller Fermentation crocks as well as 3 or 5 litre Fido jars.  They are made of pure clay, so they are a pure natural product without glaze or dye. The clay, which is fired at a very high temperatures is dense and food-safe.   After use the weights should be washed and then dried properly (recommend drying in the sun or oven).  Clay weights should never be stored inside a crock.

Anyone who has fermented in a wide jar with a narrower mouth will know that it is difficult to weigh down the vegetable matter properly because of the shape of the jar.  These weights will help solve this issue.   A cabbage leaf cut to the shape of the Fido jar can be used under the ceramic weights to stop bits of vegetable floating to the top of the brine.
