Handmade clay stoneware weight to fit Weck jar. Sorry but at this time this item can only be supplied to customers who purchase a Weck fermenting jar.
Made to fit into Weck jars, they are made of pure clay, so are a pure natural product. The clay, which is fired at a very high stoneware temperatures is dense and food-safe ie vitrified. After use the weights should be washed and then dried properly (recommend drying in the sun or oven). Clay weights should never be stored inside a crock.
No one piece glass weight on the market will have the same diameter as these weights so will not cover the entire surface area of a ferment in a Weck jar. These weights will help solve this issue. A cabbage leaf cut to the shape of the Weck jar can be used under the ceramic weights to stop bits of vegetable floating to the top of the brine.
