Handmade clay stoneware weight to fit Wide Mouth Fermenting jars.  At at this time this item can only be supplied to customers who purchase a Wide Mouth Fermenter.

Made to fit into wide mouth mason jars, they are made of pure clay, so are a pure natural product. The clay, which is fired at a very high stoneware temperatures is dense and food-safe ie vitrified.  After use the weights should be washed and then dried properly (recommend drying in the sun or oven).  Clay weights should never be stored inside a crock.

Anyone who has fermented in any glass jar with a narrower mouth will know that it is difficult to weigh down the vegetable matter properly because of the shape of the jar. These weights will help solve this issue.   No one piece glass weight on the market will have the same coverage as these weights.   A cabbage leaf cut to the shape of the mason  jar can be used under the ceramic weights to stop bits of vegetable floating to the top of the brine.
